Portable imaging,
brought to the patient.

Ohana coordinates access to portable X-ray services through licensed radiology partners, bringing chest X-ray, extremity, and musculoskeletal imaging directly to the patient's location. No transport required.

Imaging Services

What portable imaging covers.

Portable X-ray services are available through the imaging partner for a range of clinical indications, without the patient needing to leave their home or facility.

Chest X-Ray

Portable chest imaging for pneumonia assessment, CHF monitoring, line and tube placement confirmation, pleural effusion evaluation, and other respiratory clinical indications.

Extremity Imaging

X-rays of the hands, wrists, feet, ankles, and other extremities for fracture evaluation, bone density assessment, and orthopedic follow-up in patients who cannot travel.

Musculoskeletal

Hip, pelvis, spine, and shoulder imaging for orthopedic evaluation, particularly useful for SNF and homebound patients following falls, injuries, or post-surgical monitoring.

Where We Coordinate

Imaging at the patient's location.

Portable X-ray coordination is available for patients wherever they reside, eliminating the burden and risk of transport for imaging needs.

Skilled Nursing Facilities

Rapid on-site imaging for SNF residents who cannot be safely transported to a radiology department, reducing emergency room visits and transport-related risks.

Assisted Living & Memory Care

Imaging for residents with mobility or behavioral limitations that make clinic transport impractical, distressing, or contraindicated.

Private Residences

For homebound patients under physician care who require imaging follow-up or acute clinical assessment without leaving home.

Hospice & Palliative Settings

Non-invasive portable imaging in end-of-life care settings, supporting comfort-focused clinical decisions without transport burden.

How It Works

Physician order required.

Portable X-ray services require a valid physician order prior to scheduling. Ohana coordinates the logistics; the ordering clinician retains responsibility for clinical decisions.

1
Physician Order Obtained

A licensed physician, NP, or PA places an order for portable X-ray. Ohana confirms the order is in place before scheduling.

2
Coordination Request

Submit a request through Ohana. We confirm the imaging type, patient location, and schedule availability with our radiology partner.

3
On-Site Imaging

A certified radiologic technologist arrives at the patient's location with portable equipment and completes the imaging.

4
Radiologist Read & Report

Images are read by a licensed radiologist affiliated with the partner imaging provider. The final report is sent to the ordering physician.

Who can request portable X-ray?

  • Facility medical directors and attending physicians
  • Discharge planners and hospital care coordinators
  • Home health agency nurses with a physician order
  • Hospice medical directors
  • Families coordinating care with physician support
Portable X-ray services in California require CDPH radiology certification. Ohana does not perform or operate X-ray services. All imaging is performed and interpreted by our licensed radiology partner. A physician order is required for all requests.
Coverage for portable X-ray services varies by insurance plan, physician order, and patient eligibility. Portable X-ray may be covered under Medicare Part B or private insurance when ordered by a qualified physician. Coverage determination, billing, and authorization are managed by the partner radiology provider, not by Ohana. Ohana does not bill insurance and does not guarantee coverage or payment.
