Our Fleet

Vehicle fleet

We operate and maintain our own vehicles, which means consistent quality, real accountability, and no dispatch middleman between you and a reliable ride.

Ambulatory Transport

Door-to-door transport for patients who are mobile but medically fragile, at fall risk, or cognitively impaired. Driver escort service is included. Patients are assisted from door to vehicle and from vehicle to their destination. No rideshare, no unassisted drop-off.

Wheelchair-Accessible Vehicles

ADA-compliant vehicles equipped with ramp or lift access for wheelchair-dependent patients. Tie-downs and securement systems meet federal and California safety standards. Attendant assistance provided during boarding and disembarking.

Gurney / Stretcher Transport

For non-ambulatory patients who must remain recumbent during transport, including post-surgical patients, those with severe mobility impairment, and patients transferring between facilities while receiving continuous care. Fully equipped for safe horizontal transport.

Who We Serve

Built for healthcare settings

Ohana NEMT is designed around the operational reality of medical facilities, not the convenience of a consumer app. Reliability, documentation, and clinical context are built into how we work.

Dialysis Centers

Reliable recurring transport for dialysis patients: scheduled routes, consistent driver assignment where possible, and a low no-show rate that dialysis coordinators can actually count on. We understand the stakes of missed dialysis appointments and treat on-time performance accordingly.

Hospitals & Discharge Coordinators

Safe, compliant discharge transport with direct coordination with your team on timing, patient condition, and documentation requirements. We work within your discharge workflow, not against it. Confirmation provided, driver details shared in advance, and changes accommodated with a single call.

Skilled Nursing Facilities

Inter-facility transfers, specialist appointments, outpatient therapy, and follow-up visits, coordinated to your scheduling requirements. We communicate directly with your care coordinators and can accommodate routine standing orders for patients with recurring transport needs.

Home-to-Appointment

For patients and families who need consistent, reliable medical transport from home to physician appointments, outpatient procedures, imaging, or therapy. Caregiver or family member may accompany the patient at no additional charge when space permits.

FAQ

Common questions about NEMT

Answers to the questions hospitals, dialysis centers, SNFs, and families ask most often about Ohana's medical transportation service.

Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) is ground transport for patients who need a ride to or from a medical appointment but do not require emergency medical intervention during the trip. Ambulances are dispatched for life-threatening emergencies and are staffed with paramedics or EMTs providing active medical care in transit. Ohana NEMT provides safe, supervised transport for medically fragile or mobility-impaired patients, not for emergency response. For any life-threatening emergency, always call 911.

Ohana operates three vehicle types to meet different patient needs: ambulatory transport vehicles for patients who are mobile but medically fragile or cognitively impaired, wheelchair-accessible vehicles (WAV) with ADA-compliant ramp or lift systems for wheelchair-dependent patients, and gurney/stretcher transport vehicles for non-ambulatory patients who must remain recumbent during the trip. All vehicles are regularly inspected, fully insured, and California NEMT certified.

We prefer at least 24 hours' notice for standard bookings, which allows us to confirm vehicle type, driver, and routing. Confirmation is provided within 2 hours of the request during business hours. Same-day transport is accommodated based on fleet availability. Call our dispatch line directly for urgent or same-day needs and we will communicate availability honestly and quickly. Recurring standing transport for dialysis or regular appointments can also be set up on a scheduled basis.

Ohana NEMT currently operates across Los Angeles County, Orange County, Riverside County, and San Bernardino County. Our dispatch team manages routing throughout all four counties, including cross-county transfers between regional medical centers and facilities. Specific origin-and-destination availability may vary. Contact our dispatch team to confirm coverage for your particular route.

Coverage for NEMT services varies by insurance plan, benefit tier, and authorization requirements. Some Medi-Cal managed care plans and Medicare Advantage plans include NEMT as a covered benefit, subject to medical necessity criteria and prior authorization. Coverage is not guaranteed and depends on your specific plan and eligibility. Ohana's coordination team can help clarify what may be available for a given patient. Contact us with the patient's plan information and we will assist in determining next steps.

Discharge planners, social workers, and facility administrators can set up a facility account with Ohana for streamlined NEMT coordination. Facility accounts include a dedicated Ohana point of contact, a single-channel intake process for all transport requests, consistent driver assignment for recurring patients where scheduling allows, and documentation support for discharge records. Contact us through the form on this page or call our main line to start the facility account setup process.

NEMT coverage, authorization requirements, and benefit availability vary by insurance plan and patient eligibility. Ohana coordinates access to transportation services but does not guarantee insurance coverage or reimbursement. Ohana NEMT is non-emergency medical transportation only, not ambulance service. For medical emergencies, call 911.
